About Fiona

I am a freelance dressage trainer / instructor based in Cheshire. I train and compete at dressage.

My equestrian career started in show jumping, hunter trials and riding club activities aged 7 before turning my attention to British Dressage.

My first pony was a super confidence giver in every aspect, just don’t expect him to load for a show! Despite this he did attend many competitions and gave me the valuable experience only a welsh pony can give. My first horse was the initial inspiration for dressage as she just didn’t like jumping! I trained Ebony from a flighty ex racer up to Elementary level successfully.

I then worked for a well known showing producer as head girl for over a year, this was an invaluable experience as I learnt what was required at the highest level of showing including HOYS, Royal International and Olympia, during the year I worked there every horse/pony on the yard qualified for HOYS!!. As the head girl I was involved on a regular basis with not only the turnout of the horses and ponies but also their training which was varied and demanding.

Since then I have concentrated solely on dressage and in my first affiliated season qualified for the Pet Plan area Festival at Preliminary level on my horse Paprika Du Landas. From then I purchased several young horse from Holland and Germany which I competed very successfully in young horses, standing in the line up to many top names including Carl Hester!.

Previous horses I’ve trained include; train Florianus with whom I won a national title in April 2009, the Pet Plan Novice Restricted. This was a huge achievement for Florianus (Fez) and I considering we had only been a partnership for a little over 6 months.

Pete Was a fabulous  “Advanced” horse, he originally came to me to be sold but he never left!! He was a Westafalian by a showjumping sire “Praktiker”. Pete has a great talent for everything difficult including piaffe andpassage. At our first affiliated outing we managed over 65% in two medium tests, even with a big spook!! Unfortunately in 2015 Pete sustained a career ending injury and was put to sleep at my yard.

My current horse is His Juwel (Harry), he was bred in the UK , and bought specifically for his breeding as a foal from Week Orchard Stud. He is now rising 8 and after a bit of a delayed start I am aiming him at medium silver regionals this winter although he is working advanced at home, future plans are for the young horse PSG in 2018!!!

I have had the benefit of training with some of the top dressage trainers in the UK including; Joanna Jackson, Spencer Wilton, Peter Storr, Gareth Hughes, Libby Williams, and I am currently enjoying a truly inspirational approach with a variety of trainers including, Peter Storr, Denise O’Reilly, Isobel Wessel’s and currently Matt Frost who brings a wicked sense of humour to lessons!!!

I can help you with your horse if you’re a happy hacker or serious competitor. I have a sympathetic approach yet will always encourage you to do your best ALL of the time! Being a trained and qualified lecturer gives me a unique perspective on the training of horse and rider. I uses different skills and approaches to suit both your horses and your own learning style! I can find ways to explain things other trainers can’t and having worked with young peole I have a full clear CRB check and have Level 2 Safeguarding Children qualification.

I also run my own Full livery/training yard in Cheshire, this is a dream come true for me and something I have wanted for as long as I can remember. From this base I can offer training, you can have the benefit of the beautiful facilities and bring your horse to me to train, alternatively maybe you are struggling with your equine partner and feel an intensive schooling “holiday” would help you both improve, if so this can also be accommodated along with long reining lessons with my schoolmaster or even to a limited number schoolmaster lessons, call for more information.
